Dolly Parton was born in 1946 in Sevier County, Tennessee, as the fourth of twelve children. She started singing as a child and moved to Nashville the day after finishing high school, determined to make a career in music.
Parton wrote many of her biggest hits herself, including "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors" and "I Will Always Love You", which later became a worldwide success in Whitney Houston's version. Her song "9 to 5" from the 1980 film of the same name earned her Grammy Awards and an Academy Award nomination.
